The was founded on September 8, 1565, by Spanish admiral and Florida's first governor, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. St. Augustine is famed for its Spanish colonial architecture as well as Atlantic Ocean beaches like sandy St. Augustine Beach and tranquil Crescent Beach.
